①Annealing is a way f making metal sfter by heating it and then letting it cl very slwly.
②It will be very hard but als very brittle — that is, it will break easily.
③The herdsman,_wh lks after sheep, earns abut 650 yuan a year.
④The weather in this area is treacherus;_its sudden changes ften endanger the lives f sailrs.
⑤Sme gd readers find it helpful t use their sense t visualize — r picture — what they read.
⑥When President Trrijs f Panama met Carter, he tried t give him a friendly abraz (hug).
Sn afterwards, many f thse peple started settling dwn t becme farmers, and their languages t became mre settled and fewer in number. In recent centuries, trade, industrialisatin, the develpment f the natin-state and the spread f universal cmpulsry educatin, especially glbalisatin and better cmmunicatins in the past few decades, all have caused many languages t disappear, and dminant languages such as English, Spanish and Chinese are increasingly taking ver.
29.Which f the fllwing best explains “dminant” underlined in paragraph 2?
A.Cmplex. B.Advanced.
C.Pwerful. D.Mdern.
Ever since her childhd, Ginni, nw 71, has had a deep lve fr travel. Thrughut her career (職業(yè)) as a prfessinal dancer, she tured in the UK, but always lnged t explre further. When she retired frm dancing and her sns eventually flew the nest, she decided it was time t take the plunge.
28. Which f the fllwing best explains “take the plunge” underlined in paragraph 2?
A. Try challenging things.B. Take a degree.
C. Bring back lst memries.D. Stick t a prmise.
根據(jù)第二段劃線詞前文“Thrughut her career(職業(yè)) as a prfessinal dancer, she tured in the UK, but always lnged t explre further. (在她的職業(yè)舞蹈演員生涯中,她曾在英國(guó)巡演,但一直渴望進(jìn)一步探索)”和“When she retired frm dancing and her sns eventually flew the nest (當(dāng)她不再跳舞,她的兒子們最終獨(dú)立生活)”可知,Ginni在退休和兒子們成家立業(yè)之后,她決定嘗試有挑戰(zhàn)性的事情。由此推知,劃線詞組take the plunge與try challenging things“嘗試有挑戰(zhàn)性的事情”意思接近。故選A。
①They traveled a lng way, at last gt t a castle,_a large building in ld times.
同位語(yǔ)部分“a large building in ld times”給出了castle的確切詞義,即古時(shí)候的“城堡”。
②We are n the night_shift — frm midnight t 8 a.m. — this week.
③The “Chunnel”, a tunnel (隧道) cnnecting England and France, is nw cmplete.
此句中“a tunnel (隧道) cnnecting England and France”是Chunnel的同位語(yǔ)。
I am Peter Hdes, a vlunteer stem cell curier. Since March 2012, I've dne 89 trips — f thse, 51 have been abrad. I have 42 hurs t carry stem cells (干細(xì)胞) in my little bx because I've gt tw ice packs and that's hw lng they last. In all, frm the time the stem cells are harvested frm a dnr (捐獻(xiàn)者) t the time they can be implanted in the patient, we've gt 72 hurs at mst. S I am always cnscius f time.
29.Which f the fllwing can replace the underlined wrd “curier” in Paragraph 1?
A.prvider B.delivery man
C.cllectr D.medical dctr
[分析] “a vlunteer stem cell curier”是“Peter Hdes”的同位語(yǔ);根據(jù)文中“I have 42 hurs t carry stem cells (干細(xì)胞) in my little bx”可知,Peter Hdes的任務(wù)就是將捐獻(xiàn)者捐獻(xiàn)的干細(xì)胞運(yùn)送給需要的病人,即作者是干細(xì)胞遞送員。
That includes huge savings in maintenance csts and better prtectin f railway persnnel safety. It is calculated that Eurpean railways alne spend apprximately 20 billin eurs a year n maintenance, including sending maintenance staff, ften at night, t inspect and repair the rail infrastructure. That can be dangerus wrk that culd be avided with drnes assisting the crews’ effrts.
29. What des “maintenance” underlined in paragraph 3 refer t?
A. Persnnel safety.B. Assistance frm drnes.
C. Inspectin and repair.D. Cnstructin f infrastructure.
根據(jù)后文“It is calculated that Eurpean railways alne spend apprximately 20 billin eurs a year n maintenance, including sending maintenance staff, ften at night, t inspect and repair the rail infrastructure. (據(jù)統(tǒng)計(jì),僅歐洲鐵路公司每年在鐵路維護(hù)上的花費(fèi)就約為200億歐元,其中包括經(jīng)常在夜間派遣維修人員檢查和維修鐵路基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施)”可知花在maintenance上的費(fèi)用是用于“inspect and repair the rail infrastructure (檢查和維修鐵路基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施”,由此可知“That includes huge savings in maintenance csts and better prtectin f railway persnnel safety”是指大幅節(jié)省檢修成本和更好地保護(hù)鐵路人員安全,劃線詞和 C項(xiàng):Inspectin and repair(檢修)含義相近。
①“Our parties are aimed fr children 2 t 10,” Anacleri said, “and they're very interactive and creative in that they built a sense f drama based n a subject.”
②Perhaps, we can see sme pssibilities fr next fifty years. But the next hundred?
A silence in a cnversatin may als shw stubbrnness, uneasiness,_r wrry.
①The lack f mvement caused the muscles t weaken. Smetimes the weakness was permanent. S the player culd never play the sprt again.
②Mary didn't ntice me when I came int the classrm, because she was cmpletely engrssed in her reading.
③Our visin was bscured by the trees, s we culdn't see the lake frm ur windw.
…
If yu have a_juicer,_yu can simply feed in frzen bananas and sme berries r sliced fruit. Out cmes a “sftserve” creamy dessert, t be eaten right away. This makes a fun activity fr a children's party; they lve feeding the fruit and frzen bananas int the tp f the machine and watching the ice cream cme ut belw.
26.What is “a juicer” in the last paragraph?
A.A dessert. B.A drink.
C.A cntainer. D.A machine.
[分析] 該段第一句含有一個(gè)if引導(dǎo)的條件狀語(yǔ)從句,若滿足該條件,則產(chǎn)生的結(jié)果是第一句的后半句和第二句, “yu can simply feed in frzen bananas and sme berries r sliced fruit. Out cmes a ‘sft-serve’ creamy dessert, t be eaten right away.”
文章中的代詞it, that, he, him或them可以指代上文提到的人或物,其中it和that還可以指代一件事。
①Like Schmid, the editrs f several self-published art magazines als champin (捍衛(wèi)) fund phtgraphs. One f them,_called simply Fund, was brn ne snwy night in Chicag, when Davy Rthbard returned t his car t find under his wiper (雨刷) an angry nte intended fr smene else:“Why's yur car HERE at HER place?”
②Hwever, the questin that “mn peple” asked is still an interesting ne. A grwing number f scientists are seriusly thinking abut it.
it指的是月球人(mn peple)所問(wèn)的問(wèn)題(the questin)。
[例]
…
[2]Despite the celebratins, thugh, in the U.S.the jazz audience cntinues t shrink and grw lder, and the music has failed t cnnect with yunger generatins.
[3]It's Jasn Mran's jb t help change that.As the Kennedy Center's artistic adviser fr jazz, Mran hpes t widen the audience fr jazz, make the music mre accessible, and preserve its histry and culture.
…
29.What des the underlined wrd “that” in paragraph 3 refer t?
A.Jazz becming mre accessible.
B.The prductin f jazz grwing faster.
C.Jazz being less ppular with the yung.
D.The jazz audience becming larger.
[分析] 根據(jù)語(yǔ)境可知,畫線詞that指代第二段“Despite the celebratins, thugh, in the U.S. the jazz audience cntinues t shrink and grw lder, and the music has failed t cnnect with yunger generatins.”
Wendy Wilsn, extra care manager at 60 Penfld Street, ne f the first t embark n the prject, said: “Residents really welcme the idea f the prject and the creative sessins. We are lking frward t the benefits and fun the prject can bring t peple here.”
30. What d the underlined wrds “embark n” mean in paragraph 7?
A. Imprve.B. Oppse.C. Begin.D. Evaluate.
根據(jù)文章倒數(shù)第二段“Residents really welcme the idea f the prject and the creative sessins. We are lking frward t the benefits and fun the prject can bring t peple here.
Adults understand what it feels like t be flded with bjects. Why d we ften assume that mre_is_mre when it cmes t kids and their belngings? The gd news is that I can help my wn kids learn earlier than I did hw t live mre with less.
…
32.What d the wrds “mre is mre” in paragraph 1 prbably mean?
A.The mre, the better.
B.Enugh is enugh.
C.Mre mney, mre wrries.
D.Earn mre and spend mre.
[分析] 根據(jù)該段第一句“Adults understand what it feels like t be flded with bjects.” 故選A。
①A child's birthday party desn't have t be a hassle;_it can be a basket f fun.
②She is usually prmpt fr all her class, but tday she arrived in the middle f her first class.
③The players in the Wrld Cup are prfessinals, while thse wh play in the Olympics must be amateurs.
…
Gray wlves nce were seen here and there in the Yellwstne area and much f the cntinental United States, but they were gradually displaced by human develpment. By the 1920s, wlves had practically disappeared frm the Yellwstne area. They went farther nrth int the deep frests f Canada, where there were fewer humans arund.
…
29.What des the underlined wrd “displaced” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Tested. B.Separated.
C.Frced ut. D.Tracked dwn.

10. What des the underlined wrd "smething" in the last paragraph refer t?
A. Advice.B. Data.C. Tests.D. Laws.
根據(jù)句中的“We need smething n the bks that can change peple's behavir.”(我們需要一些能改變?nèi)藗冃袨榈臇|西,)可知,smething是能夠改變?nèi)藗兊男袨榈氖虑椤8鶕?jù)下文的“If the Textalyzer bill becmes law, he said, "peple are ging t be mre afraid t put their hands n the cell phne.”(他說(shuō),如果Textalyzer法案成為法律,“人們會(huì)更害怕拿起手機(jī)。)

These days yu’d be hard pressed t find anyne in Australia ver the age f 15 wh desn’t wn a mbile phne. In fact plenty f yunger kids have ne in their pcket. Practically everyne can make and receive calls anywhere, anytime.
Still, 55 percent f Australians have a landline phne at hme and nly just ver a quarter (29%) rely nly n their smartphnes accrding t a survey (調(diào)查). Of thse Australians wh still have a landline, a third cncede that it’s nt really necessary and they’re keeping it as a security blanket — 19 percent say they never use it while a further 13 percent keep it in case f emergencies. I think my hme falls int that categry.
Mre than half f Australian hmes are still chsing t stick with their hme phne. Age is naturally a factr(因素)— nly 58 percent f Generatin Ys still use landlines nw and then, cmpared t 84 percent f Baby Bmers wh’ve perhaps had the same hme number fr 50 years. Age isn’t the nly factr; I’d say it’s als t d with the makeup f yur husehld.
Generatin Xers with yung families, like my wife and I, can still find it cnvenient t have a hme phne rather than prviding a mbile phne fr every family member. That said, t be hnest the nly peple wh ever ring ur hme phne are ur Baby Bmers parents, t the pint where we play a game and guess wh is calling befre we pick up the phne(using Caller ID wuld take the fun ut f it).
Hw attached are yu t yur landline? Hw lng until they g the way f gas street lamps and mrning milk deliveries?

25. What des the underlined wrd “cncede” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Admit.B. Argue.

26. What can we say abut Baby Bmers?
A. They like smartphne games.B. They enjy guessing callers’ identity.
C. They keep using landline phnes.D. They are attached t their family.
27. What can be inferred abut the landline frm the last paragraph?

根據(jù)劃線單詞的上文“Of thse Australians wh still have a landline (在那些仍然有固定電話的澳大利亞人中)”可知,這個(gè)調(diào)查的目標(biāo)人群是仍然有固定電話的澳大利亞人;根據(jù)下文“it's nt really necessary and they're keeping it as a security blanket — 19 percent say they never use it while a further 13 percent keep it in case f emergencies (固定電話并不是必須的,他們將其作為一種安全保障——19%的人表示他們從未使用過(guò)固定電話,另有13%的人保留固定電話以防緊急情況)”可知,很多人認(rèn)為固定電話并不是必須擁有的,有些人保留固定電話只是為了防止緊急情況。 故選A項(xiàng)。
根據(jù)文章第四段“84 percent f Baby Bmers wh've perhaps had the same hme number fr 50 years.(嬰兒潮時(shí)代中有84%的人可能已經(jīng)有50年相同的家庭號(hào)碼了)”以及文章第五段“That said, t be hnest the nly peple wh ever ring ur hme phne are ur Baby Bmers parents (也就是說(shuō),老實(shí)說(shuō),唯一打過(guò)我們家電話的人是嬰兒潮一代的父母)”可推知,嬰兒潮時(shí)代的人一直用固定電話。 根據(jù)文章最后一段“Hw attached are yu t yur landline? Hw lng until they g the way f gas street lamps and mrning milk deliveries?

根據(jù)第一段“Millins f acres f wetlands were dried t feed and huse the ever-increasing ppulatins, greatly reducing waterfwl habitat.”
根據(jù)前一句“Native Americans had taken care f these precius natural resurces wisely.” A.
根據(jù)最后一段“Since 1934, better than half a billin dllars has gne int that Fund t purchase mre than 5 millin acres f habitat.”
