T be a gd teacher, yu need sme f the gifts f a gd actr; yu must be able t hld the attentin and interest f yur audience; yu must be a clear speaker, with a gd, strng, pleasing vice which is fully under yur cntrl; and yu must be able t act what yu are teaching, in rder t make its meaning clear.
Watch a gd teacher, and yu will see that he des nt sit still befre his class:He stands the whle time he is teaching; he walks abut, using his arms, hands and fingers t help him in his explanatins, and his face t express feelings. Listen t him, and yu will hear the ludness, the quality and the musical nte f his vice always changing accrding t what he is talking abut.
The fact that a gd teacher has sme f the gifts f a gd actr desn't mean that he will indeed be able t act well n the stage, fr there are very imprtant differences between the teacher's wrk and the actr's. The actr has t speak wrds which he has learnt by heart; he has t repeat exactly the same wrds each time he plays a certain part, even his mvements and the ways in which he uses his vice are usually fixed befrehand (預(yù)先). What he has t d is t make all these carefully learnt wrds and actins seem natural n the stage.
A gd teacher wrks in quite a different way. His audience takes an active part in his play:they ask and answer questins, they bey rders, and if they dn't understand smething, they say s. The teacher therefre has t meet the needs f his audience, which is his class. He cannt learn his part by heart, but must invent it as he ges alng.

D.stands r sits still while teaching
26.In what way is a teacher's wrk different frm an actr's?
A.The teacher must learn everything by heart.
B.He knws hw t cntrl his vice better than an actr.
C.He has t deal with unexpected situatins.
D.He has t use mre facial expressins.
27.The main difference between students in class and a theatre audience is that ________.

Dn't get mad next time yu catch yur teenager texting when he cmmits himself t studying. He simply may nt be able t resist. A study f the University f Iwa (UI) fund teenagers are far mre sensitive than adults t the immediate effect r reward f their behavir. The findings may help explain why the initial rush f texting may be mre attractive fr adlescents than the lng-term payff f studying.
“Fr the teenager, the rewards are seductive fr them t be addicted t texting,” says Prfessr Jatin Vaidya, an authr f the study. “They draw adlescents. Smetimes, the rewards are a kind f mtivatin fr them. Even when a kind f behavir is n lnger in a teenager's best interest t cntinue, they will, because the effect f the rewards is still there and lasts much lnger in adlescents than in adults.”
Fr parents, that means limiting distractins s that teenagers can make better chices. Take the hmewrk and scial media dilemma: At 9 p.m., shut ff everything except a cmputer that has n access t Facebk r Twitter, as the researchers advise. “I'm nt saying they shuldn't be allwed access t technlgy,” says Vaidya. “But sme help in resetting their cncentratin is necessary fr them s that they can develp thse impulse-cntrl skills.”
In their study, Vaidya and c-authr Shaun Vecera nte researchers generally believe teenagers are nt mature, make bad decisins, and engage in risky behavir because the frntal lbes (額葉) f their brains are nt fully develped. But the UI researchers wndered whether smething mre fundamental was ging n with adlescents t cause behavir independent f higher-level reasning.
“We wanted t try t understand the brain's reward system and hw it changes frm childhd t adulthd,” says Vaidya, wh adds that the reward character in the human brain is easier than decisin-making. “We've been trying t understand the reward prcess in adlescence and whether there is mre t adlescent behavir than an under-develped frntal lbe,” he adds. Fr their study, the researchers persuaded 40 adlescents, aged 13 t 16, and 40 adults, aged 20 t 35 t participate.
In the future, researchers hpe t lk int the psychlgical and neurlgical (神經(jīng)學(xué)上的) aspects f their results.
28.What des the passage mainly tell us?

C.Resistance can be cntrlled well by adlescents.
D.Getting rewards is the greatest mtivatin fr adlescents t study.

A.The influence f the reward is weak in adlescents.
B.Parents shuld help children in making decisins.
C.Children shuld have access t the Internet.
D.Children need help in refcusing their attentin.
31.What result des the teenager's brain underdevelpment lead t?
A.Ding things after sme thught. B.Making gd decisins.
C.Jining in dangerus actins. D.Escaping risky behavir.

There are arund 6,000 living languages in the wrld and at least half f these are in danger. In every part f the wrld, languages are disappearing. In fact, ne scientist has said that languages are in mre danger f extinctin than birds r mammals. Prfessr Steve Sutherland f the University f East Anglia says that in the past 500 years 4.5 percent f languages have died ut—cmpared with 1.3 percent f birds, and 1.9 percent f mammals.
Languages cme and g, and thusands have dne exactly that withut leaving any trace. Only a very few—Basque, Greek and Latin amng them—have lasted mre than 2,000 years. But it seems that the pace f their disappearance is becming quicker.
The Ethnlgue, a database f all the languages spken in the wrld, states that 417 languages are spken by s few peple that they are in the final stages f becming extinct. If very few peple speak a language, it will prbably die ut.
Languages may be lst thrugh migratin (遷移), as peple mve frm small twns t city centers, r when envirnments are destryed by the search fr il r wd. Natural disasters can als destry ppulatins, and alng with them, their language. Gvernments als play a rle in the extinctin f languages. The need t establish “fficial languages”, fr a cuntry t educate its children and carry ut its business, had a disastrus effect n many small languages.
What is lst if a language is lst? Sme peple argue that languages die as the human race develps. Obviusly there culd be great benefits if everyne in the wrld spke the same language—sme industries already reflect this, with English essential fr pilts and air traffic cntrllers. But there are mre imprtant things than cnvenience. As languages are lst, whle ways f life and knwledge may be lst alng with them.
T put it simply, language expresses smething abut identity, abut ur place in the wrld. Ani Rauhihi, a Mari teacher in New Zealand's Nrth Island, sums it up: “If yu grw up speaking ur language, yu wn't knw wh yu are.”
32.What d the figures mentined in the first paragraph suggest?
A.Mst languages have died ut cmpletely.
B.Languages are in great danger f extinctin.
C.Animals are disappearing faster than languages.
D.Languages are disappearing slwer than befre.
33.What will happen while peple mved?
A.Ppulatins will reduce. B.Fd will grw well.
C.Language will disappear. D.Peple becme strangers.
34.What will cme abut if a language is lst?
A.There will be great truble.
B.There is n need t wrry abut it.
C.Its culture and knwledge will als be lst.
D.Peple will be able t cmmunicate with thers cnveniently.
35.What can we infer frm the last paragraph?
A.Languages reflect ur identity.
B.Peple will speak the same language ne day.
C.Fewer peple will remember their wn languages.
D.Ani Rauhihi cares less abut languages dying ut.
