Cnsidering the urgent need t prtect seagrass meadws, scientists are eager t knw abut their size and number.Hwever, the meadws can be hard t spt frm abve, either because the water is t deep r nt clear enugh. And the cean is s huge that it’s hard t study them by diving.S scientists decided t have tiger sharks help the research.
Tiger sharks are inbrn fast swimmers, and spend a lt f time in seagrass meadws.Between 2016 and 2020,the researchers attached cameras and ther trackers t the fins f seven tiger sharks, and then let them g again. The cameras were designed t fall ff after hurs and flat t the surface.Tracking signals helped find the flating cameras and cllect the vides the sharks had taken while traveling fr miles.Mrever, ther tls were used, including satellite images,as well as images taken by divers and bats.
Putting all this infrmatin tgether, the scientists learned that the waters arund the Bahamas are hme t the largest seagrass meadw ever discvered. And the meadws cver at least 25,500 square miles, and culd be as large as 35,500 square miles.
Different frm previus studies, the prgram discvers hw useful large underwater animals can be in helping t learn mre abut life under the sea.Oliver Shipley,a scientist frm the team, says animals like tiger sharks are ging t take us t new places that we didn’t knw existed.

Unit 4 A glimpse f the future
根據(jù)第二段中的“They help in the fight against the climate crisis. That’s because they stre huge amunts f carbn—the majr surce f glbal warming.Damaging these seagrass meadws can release this pllutant again, making things wrse.”
根據(jù)第四段中的“Between 2016 and 2020,the researchers attached cameras and ther trackers t the fins f seven tiger sharks, and then let them g again. The cameras were designed t fall ff after hurs and flat t the surface.Tracking signals helped find the flating cameras and cllect the vides the sharks had taken while traveling fr miles.Mrever, ther tls were used, including satellite images,as well as images taken by divers and bats.”
根據(jù)文章大意,尤其是第一段和第二段中的“As a shelter fr many sea creatures, seagrass is a flwering plant that nrmally grws in shallw waters near casts. They grw in thick fields, knwn as seagrass meadws”可知,文章主要講述了科學(xué)家們發(fā)現(xiàn)了世界上已知的最大的海草場(chǎng)。
根據(jù)第一段中的“The students stand n a pier ver the Harlem River in New Yrk City. They stare dwn int the brwn water.Their teacher,Mr.Rdman, pulls a lng rpe ut f the river.”以及“They als measure the level f xygen. As mre ysters grw,the water shuld becme clearer and hld mre xygen.”
If algae grw t fast, they can decrease xygen frm the water—and even fish need xygen t breathe!”
根據(jù)第三段中的“Pllutin was puring int the waters. The harbr became seriusly plluted.Since the 1970s,new laws have helped reduce pisnus waste.Sme fish started t swim thrugh again. But ysters were still missing—until recently.”
If algae grw t fast, they can decrease xygen frm the water—and even fish need xygen t breathe!”
2.C 結(jié)合上文和句中“Dgs are a pain.”
4.B 根據(jù)下文“I fed,brushed and walked him every day.”
5.A 根據(jù)上文“I fed,brushed and walked him every day.”和下文“Fr me,this meant a lyal cmpanin”可知,“我”照顧小狗,收獲了一個(gè)忠誠的伙伴。
6.B 根據(jù)句中“at the dr when I returned”可知,“我”回家時(shí),小狗會(huì)在家門口迎接“我”。
7.A 根據(jù)上文“I als learned that...”
8.B 文章開頭講父親特別討厭狗,反對(duì)養(yǎng)狗,結(jié)合本段末“He even made chew tys fr Chip t play with.”
10.C 下文“He even made chew tys fr Chip t play with.”
Ⅲ. Suddenly ne mrning,Ja fund Dindim disappeared.“Has it really left?” Ja wndered, his mind mixing with srrw and jy.In rder t breed,he knew that Dindim had t g back, but it still made him heartbrken.Lking at the empty nest,he refused t leave. After a while,he bent dwn, picked up a few feathers frm the grund, and turned back t the rm.When putting the feather int a jar,he said t himself,“Fine,it’s finally grwn up.”
A few mnths later,Ja heard sme familiar cries in his backyard. He hurriedly ran t the backyard. What caught his eyes were a grup f penguins lking arund! One even staggered up t him and lked up at him,as if asking,“Old friend,d yu remember me?” It was Dindim! He quickly bent dwn, gently strking its feathers.Later, these penguins lived there fr a while and left sme beautiful memries.S,just like Dindim,a penguin remembering wh saved it when in truble, let’s always be grateful.
