At 16, when I was playing football, I injured my knee so badly that I had to give up any sporting ambitions. However, I turned to photography as a way for me to continue exploring my passion for sport. Taking photos also allowed me to connect with people, sound their voices and challenge social norms (規(guī)范).When I was growing up, I hardly saw any photographs of ordinary girls playing sport. The only images I see of sportswomen in the mainstream media are of excellent athletes. To fill the gap, I’m trying to do my own art project People, Place and Sport. Since most people aren’t used to being in the spotlight, I will open with the same question: “What does this sport mean to you?” Then I try to involve the subjects I photograph by doing interviews with them and asking how they would like to share their stories with sports. When people respond positively and start to relax, I begin to shoot them on film. One of my best project photos is of Mav Akram boxing. Mav is an African woman boxer and runs a Women’s Boxing Club in Birmingham. She is also passionate about getting women into boxing, not just for the physical elements, but also mental health. Because Mav thinks boxing is not only a strategic sport of not getting hit, but also can offer a sense of community. This photo truly encourages women of all shapes and sizes to participate in the sport.41What is the author?AAn athlete. BA photographer. CA coach. DA reporter.42How does the author bond with her subjects?ABy taking their photos right away. BBy showing them a picture of Mav.CBy getting to know their own stories. DBy opening up with various questions.43What does Mav think of boxing?AIt is merely suitable for men. BIt sharpens her body and mind.CIt teaches her to avoid getting hit. DIt helps her fight against social norms.44What is the text mainly about?AAn art project. BA passion for sport.CAn impressive photo. DA lasting friendship.BToday, battery power per kilowatt hour costs around only ten per cent of what it did a decade ago. And the expectation is that the costs will continue to fall, because battery chemistry improves and manufacturing (批量生產(chǎn)) lots of batteries on a massive scale makes the production of individual batteries cheaper. You can be forgiven for thinking that this might only be of interest to accountants, but the possible effects of this are enormous, and will benefit all of us. First and most obviously, it has made the batteries in electric cars cheaper and longer-lasting. And brilliantly, because electric batteries are improving so dramatically, we can already see the results. Last September, 15 per cent of all-new vehicle registrations were pure electric vehicles. So the change is starting to happen.Better batteries does not just mean better te however. They can also help us decarbonise the entire national grid (輸電網(wǎng)). Storing energy has always been a problem for the grid. Today, only a tiny amount of generated electricity is stored for later use, which leads to lots of power going to waste. But better batteries make it technologically and economically viable to store large amounts of energy from the grid. It’s possible that in the not-too-distant future, we might have an enormous battery in the garage. It would take power from the grid (or maybe even solar panels on the roof), and power appliances and lights in our homes at the times when demand for electricity is high. Home batteries are not yet as established as electric cars ? but-they are also growing in popularity. So, given how much technology has improved batteries over the last decade, I can’t help but be strangely optimistic about the future. Batteries may not be as flashy (華麗的) as phones, rockets or other new technologies. But when it comes to technology to fight climate change, they’re definitely leading the charge.45What contributes to the popularity of electric cars?AThe production of individual batteries.BThe longer duration and less cost of batteries.CAccountants’ interest in cheaper batteries.DThe increasing vehicle registrations.46What does the underlined word “viable” mean in paragraph 3?ACheaper. BDramatic. CWorkable. D. Exceptional.47What does the author expect of batteries?AThey will become smaller.BThey will help make the world greener.CThey will sell better than phones.DThey will replace chargers on a lois trip.48Which is the most suitable title for the text?AHome Batteries Will Catch On -BBatteries Are Getting Better and BetterCBattery Technology Needs Improving UrgentlyDPetrol-powered Cars Will Be UpgradedCClimate activist Henry Emson told Euronews that when he became a father seven years ago, he was worried about his family’s effect on the environment. After doing some research, he found the best way to eliminate their carbon footprint was by planting giant sequoia trees(巨型紅杉樹).Giant sequoias are ideal for capturing carbon dioxide because they continue to grow consistently for centuries, storing CO2 over time. General Sherman, the world’s largest sequoia tree, has stored an estimated 1,500 tons of CO2 in its trunk over the last 2,200 years and could live another 800 years. The average human could generate close to 1,000 tons of CO2 over their lifetime, so planting one giant sequoia could effectively reduce the carbon footprint of more than one person. After realizing the power giant sequoias have to fight climate change, Emson devoted his life to planting thousands in the UK by creating the One Life One Tree project. Its final goal is to plant 100,000 giant sequoias in the UK by 2030, and according to The Mirror, as of March 2022, it has already planted 700. Trees are currently being planted near Abergavenny in Wales and the project is expanding to Devon, the Lake District and Scotland. While the common assumption is that these giant trees can only be grown in Northern California, they actually do well in the UK at a time when the sequoia population is threatened back home.According to One Tree One Life, 95% of the old-growth sequoia population has been logged over the past two centuries and what remains is under threat from climate change. “A 10 yeardrought and temperature increase have greatly damaged the health of the trees. A secondary impact of the drought is making them increasingly susceptible(易受影響的)to insect attack and fire,” the site says.Considering the danger that climate change is causing giant sequoias in California, Emson’s work also benefits these trees. “They’re like climate refugees(難民)—we help them with assisted migration,” he told Euronews.49What does the underlined word “eliminate” in the first paragraph probably mean?AMeasure. BRemove. COverlook. DSpread.50How does the text mainly show giant sequoias’ ability to store CO2?ABy giving an example. BBy doing an experiment.CBy making comparisons. DBy referring to comments.51Why did Henry Emson launch the One Life One Tree project?ATo protect the environment by planting trees.BTo test the adaptability of giant sequoia trees.CTo save different kinds of endangered trees.DTo prove the value of giant sequoias to his kids.52What can be learned about Henry Emson’s work?AIt disturbs the whole ecosystem of California.BIt indirectly turns giant sequoias into refugees.CIt helps promote the survival of giant sequoias.DIt assists California in recovering from drought.DHistory is important to study because it is essential for all of us in understanding ourselves and the world around us. And in my opinion, studying history benefits beyond history itself, because it helps develop and refine our skills through studying history. You can refine our reading skills by reading texts from a wide array of time periods. Language has changed and evolved over time and so has the way people write and express themselves. We can also refine our writing skills through learning to not just repeat what someone else said, but to analyze information from multiple sources and come up with our own conclusions. It’s two birds with one stone — better writing and critical thinking! There are so many sources of information out in the world. Finding a decisive truth for many topics just doesn’t exist. What was a victory for one group was a great loss for another — we get to create our own opinions of these events.History gives us the opportunity to learn from others’ past mistakes. It helps us understand the many reasons why people may behave the way they do. As a result, it helps us become smarter as decision-makers.In the study of history we will need to conduct research. This gives us the opportunity to look at two kinds of sources — primary (written at the time) and secondary sources (written about a time period, after the fact). This practice can teach us how to decipher between reliable and unreliable sources. There are numbers and data to be learned from history. In terms of patterns: patterns in population, disappearances during times of war, and even in environmental factors. These patterns that are found help clarify why things happened as they did. It’s incredibly important to learn to question the quality of the information and “history” we are learning. Keep these two questions in mind as we read through information: How do I know what I’m reading are facts and accurate information? Could they be the writer’s opinions?53The author thinks history helps make good decisions in that ________.Awe can learn from others’ past mistakes Bwe can meet many sources of informationCwe can look at primary and secondary sources Dwe can create our own opinions of the past events54What does the underlined word “decipher” mean?AWork out. BMake out. CPick out. DTry out.55Why are the two questions mentioned in the last of the passage?ATo remind readers to read historical novels carefully.BTo warn readers not to read too many history booksCTo emphasize the quality of the information on history.DTo make readers doubt about the reality of history.56What is the best title of the passage?AHow to study history? BWhy is history important?CReliable data of history DValue of studying historyD.Entertainment. Imagine you live in your green dream home: extremely energy-saving, beautiful, cozy and perfectly satisfactory. Maybe you are picturing such a brand new smart house, but actually you can redecorate your current house with green concept in a simple way. Wright Rudy, a builder and energy-efficiency expert who has done a number of home designs, says you can save more energy than you might think. He helps homeowners get energy savings of up to 75 percent when he’s able to rework a house perfectly. A series of energy-saving designs in one neighborhood has been done to cut some homes’ energy use in half, resulting in an average cost savings of $100 per month on energy bills. If you’re doing a major home upgrade, you can go further and add solar design features to improve your home’s natural heating and cooling. Wright suggests you bring both pleasant living space and heat to your home by adding a sunroom. This strategy makes full use of solar energy. Similarly, cooling issues can be addressed by improving natural ventilation (通風(fēng)). Instead of using the traditional way—ceiling fans, Wright suggests careful arrangements of windows and skylights as one option. Skylights are terrific because they’re located at a high point in the room, which allows warm air to rise out while cooler outdoor air comes in through an open window. Wright says green concept for homes is the wave of the future. “I believe that within the next few years we needn’t bum fuels inside our houses any more. Our designs are cost-effective and environmentally safe. In this sense, our designs will surely address the future. Realistically, we need to be planning for that now.”57What benefit can Wright’s green house bring?________________58What does Wright advise us to do to keep the house cool?________________59Which word can replace “addressed” in the paragraph 4?________________60Why does Wright have the idea of green homes?________________四、書面表達(dá)(共1小題,20分)假定你是李華,學(xué)校決定由你代表學(xué)生會向全校學(xué)生發(fā)出保護(hù)環(huán)境的倡議。 Dear schoolmates,_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________The Students’ Union
