18.How is the news being broadcast?
A.Over the Internet. B.Over the radio. C.On TV.
19.Which city is the weather report mainly about?
A.Hong Kong. B.Shanghai. C.Guangzhou.
20.When will the heavy rains move north?
A.In May. B.In July. C.In August.
【答案】18.A????19.C????20.B
Good morning, this is Samantha from The Weather Service, your free Internet weather station with news around the world and around the clock. Your preferred city is Guangzhou. In Guangzhou this week, we expect more heavy rains, since we are only at the beginning of June. May was rather dry, but the storms should pick up again before the weekend. Hong Kong is expected to get hit hardest with this next cycle of rain, but everywhere south of Shanghai along the coast should see some amount of rainfall. Guangzhou will get around four centimeters over the next five days. Another band of rain can be seen on the radar, but it’s too far south over the sea right now. So it’s hard to say when it will hit Guangzhou.
This weather pattern should continue through June and into July, when the heavy rains will finally move to the north of China. This is the latest update for your Guangzhou weather. Remember, you can check back at The Weather Service anytime—day or night—to get updates on your local weather or the weather in your favorite city.

It was a reading class. While all her classmates were flying through the 2nd and 3rd books in the Harry Potter series, Skye Malik, only on page four of the first book, got impossibly stuck on the word “doughnut”.
Her unexpected difficulty with reading is called dyslexia. Skye got a professional diagnosis at the end of the 2nd grade. Knowing that other kids were going through the same thing made it easier on her somehow. What wasn’t easy, even after all the help she got from special tutors and reading programs, was fluent reading. What many people do without thinking—reading—she had to struggle with word by word, sometimes letter by letter. In class, she would hear the other kids flip through the pages on assignments and go on to the questions while she was still doing battle with the first paragraph.
She was as frustrated as she was discouraged. But she didn’t know of any other way until her 4th grade teacher, Miss Pollock, told her about something called Learning Ally.
Learning Ally is a non-profit organization that offers audio versions of books. A crew of volunteer readers has recorded 75,000 classic novels, children’s books, and school textbooks that help more than 300,000 students and adults with learning differences or who are blind. Now Skye could listen to the books with her ears and follow the words with her eyes on the page. Instead of having her mother read her textbooks to her, she could independently do her work. “With Learning Ally, I feel confident and capable and can easily keep up with my classmates,” Skye explains, “and I want other kids to feel empowered, just the way I did.”
So Skye, now aged 16, created The Paco Project which was named after her grandfather, whose nickname was “Paco”. The Paco Project is a fundraiser and educational initiative focusing on giving students with dyslexia access to the same Learning Ally technology that changed her life.
Skye has realized that she is one of the lucky kids who have been diagnosed. She knows that educating teachers about dyslexia and giving students with the leaning challenge the tools they need is a great first step in meeting dyslexia head on and helping them be confident, capable students.
“Right now they feel stuck ashamed, unsure and insecure about their school work. I hope I could help stop these students feeling this way, which would mean the world to me.”
24.According to the passage, what can we learn about Skye?
A.She felt annoyed at being teased by her classmates.
B.She found a way out with the help of Miss Pollock.
C.She preferred reading the first book of Harry Potter.
D.She was diagnosed with dyslexia in her fourth grade.
25.What’s the purpose of the Paco Project?
A.To be in honor of Skye’s grandfather.
B.To promote Learning Ally technology.
C.To empower those with reading difficulty.
D.To meet the growing demands of teachers.
26.Which of the following can best describe Skye’s character?
A.determined and social. B.independent and helpful.
C.empathetic and ambitious. D.considerate and confident.
27.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.What people with dyslexia are suffering?
B.What measures are needed to beat dyslexia.
C.How Learning Ally influenced people with dyslexia.
D.How Skye battled against dyslexia and helped others.

Without doubt, Africa includes some of the most diverse and powerful wildlife in the world. It’s what keeps tourists coming back and environmentalists impassioned (充滿(mǎn)激情的). Unfortunately, much of the wildlife that Africa is famous for has come under threat in recent years, as more and more African animals are at risk of dying out.
Rhinos (犀牛), the large yet gentle animals is currently considered greatly endangered in Africa. This is mostly due to poaching (偷獵) at large scale and habitat destruction according to Study.com, although there are many contributing factors. Shockingly, The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) states that there were 500,000 rhinos in Africa at the start of the 20th century. However, only 29,000 remain in the wild today.
The African mountain gorilla (大猩猩) has faced wars, civil unrest (內(nèi)亂) and habitat destruction over the years. Today, there may be as few as 700 mountain gorillas left in the wild. In fact, according to WWF, the future for mountain gorillas was once thought to be so hopeless that many people thought the species would be entirely extinct by the end of the 20th century. Luckily, things have been looking up in recent years thanks to conservation efforts, as the population has shown a slow but steady increase.
Leopards (豹子) are a powerful creature. They have seen major population decrease in recent years, and can be found in many continents across the globe including Africa, Asia and Russia. Despite this, the leopard is currently considered rather endangered. According to the International Society for Endangered Cats (ISEC) Canada, nearly 37 percent of leopards have been wiped out of their African range.
Unfortunately, the list of endangered wildlife in Africa goes on. It seems that there is no animal free from the threat of extinction in Africa. With that said, there is so much you can do to help. For a full list of tips and tricks on how you can help endangered wildlife in your area and the world, head to WorldWildlife.org.

You look up at the sky on a clear and dark night, you’ll see more stars than your eyes can count. Most of these stars have planets, similar to our own, orbiting them. With so many celestial bodies floating out in space, you can’t help but question whether other forms of life exist in the universe. And if that’s the case, is it possible to contact them?
Science is still somewhat divided on this issue. Currently, no evidence exists to suggest that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe. Yet with an estimated one trillion planets in our galaxy alone, it seems highly likely that Earthlings aren’t the only intelligent creatures out there. Some claim that life can only develop under perfect circumstances, and Earth is perhaps the only example of this. Other scientists object to this claim, and point out that even on Earth, life can find a way under the most extreme circumstances.
Some people believe that aliens have already visited our planet, but this information is being kept secret by governments. The most famous incident of this kind occurred in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. On that date, many residents reported seeing an unusual flying disc streak through the sky, before it crashed in a field. When the military heard about the crash, they quickly sealed off the area. A few hours later, the army base announced that it had recovered a flying disk. Shortly after, this statement was retracted and it was said that it was a weather balloon that crashed. However, years later one local mortician even claimed that the military had him secretly perform an autopsy on a dead alien body.
Others believe that there certainly are other life forms out there, but the distance between us is too great. Even if we could somehow create a spaceship that travels at the speed of light, it would still probably take several lifetimes to reach them. Then again, we might never have to do this if aliens reach us first.
32.Why do some scientists think there is life on other planets?
A.Because an unusual flying disc was ever witnessed.
B.Because life exists despite extreme conditions as those on the Earth do.
C.Because the government’s statement seemed suspicious.
D.Because there are a great number of planets in the universe.
33.What does the underlined word “retracted” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Examined again to guarantee the correctness. B.Emphasized again to persuade people.
C.Formally taken back what has been said. D.Seriously criticized due to poor evidence
34.Which of the following might be the best title for the text?
A.Are we alone in the universe? B.Is it possible to contact aliens?
C.Intelligent life in the universe. D.Planets floating out in space.
35.How does the author sound in the passage?
A.Objective. B.Humorous. C.Cautious. D.Anxious.
【答案】32.D33.C34.A35.A

Shortly after, this statement was”以及后文“it was said that it was a weather balloon that crashed(據(jù)說(shuō)是一個(gè)氣象氣球墜毀)”可知,該軍事基地宣布他們找到了一個(gè)飛碟。
根據(jù)第一段中“With so many celestial bodies floating out in space, you can’t help but question whether other forms of life exist in the universe. And if that’s the case, is it possible to contact them?(太空中漂浮著這么多天體,你不禁要問(wèn)宇宙中是否存在其他形式的生命。如果有的話(huà),能聯(lián)系上他們嗎?)”結(jié)合文章主要論述了太空中是否還存在其它形式的生命,論述了不同的人對(duì)此的不同看法。可知,A選項(xiàng)“我們是宇宙中唯一的存在嗎?”最符合文章標(biāo)題。故選A。

設(shè)宴祈福是被增加,句子用被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài),且由“in the Han Dynasty”可知,句子時(shí)態(tài)用一般過(guò)去時(shí),因此空格處是一般過(guò)去時(shí)的被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài),主語(yǔ)“The feast and praying”是復(fù)數(shù),因此空格處是were added,故填were added。
由“It was”和句意可知,句子是強(qiáng)調(diào)句,結(jié)構(gòu)是“it is/was+被強(qiáng)調(diào)的部分+that/who+其他部分”,被強(qiáng)調(diào)的是“after the Wei and Jin dynasties”,是時(shí)間,因此空格處是that,故填that。
it is a festival for sb. to do意為“是某人做某事的節(jié)日”,因此空格處是不定式,故填to sing。
由“Since 1983”可知,句子時(shí)態(tài)用現(xiàn)在完成時(shí),且節(jié)日活動(dòng)是被舉行,因此空格處是現(xiàn)在完成時(shí)的被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài),主語(yǔ)festivals是復(fù)數(shù),因此空格處是have been held,故填have been held。
sth. be seen as是固定短語(yǔ),意為“某物被認(rèn)為是……”,因此空格處用介詞as,表示“作為”,故填as。

Dear James,
How is everything going? It’s my great privilege to record a short video about my campus life for your classmates. I’m writing to tell you what will be included in the video.
First of all, as a student, taking different classes is my daily routine, so I would like to record a scene focusing on one of my Chinese classes to show my academic life and Chinese culture. In addition, a wide variety of extra-curricular activities are held every day in my school and therefore showing my after-school activities is also in my plan, from which your classmates can learn the diversity of Chinese high school life.
I wish such a video could live up to your expectations. If there is anything that needs improving, please don’t hesitate to tell me. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

I’m from the fishing town of Kinsale, in Ireland. Life is pretty good there, but Dubai caught my attention when I was 18. I moved there myself 10 years ago as a 30-year-old film-maker. It’s been a wild ride, full of chaos and wonder.
My wife, Christine, lives here with me; when her sister Angela came to visit in April this year, the three of us set off in my pickup truck. It was a cloudless day, touching 40 ℃. The heat and humidity were violent, so we had to sightsee from the car.
We took the scenic route between Dubai and Ras al-Khaimah, a charming city in the north. A year earlier, while off-roading with a friend, I got stuck at a water crossing there, at the only inlet on the coast, where the sea flows into a swampy lagoon (咸水湖). I had to be rescued, and learned how quickly the tide (潮水) could come in.
Christine spotted what looked like the Loch Ness monster stuck in the sand. We decided to investigate and drove up to where the sand met the lagoon. It was a camel, not moving.
Since relocating here, I have always kept a shovel, rope, torches and knives in my car—getting stuck in the desert can be debilitating (耗費(fèi)體力的).
I got out my shovel and approached the camel. It was a female; we nicknamed her Stucky. It looked as if she had been trapped for hours—she was in quite deep. I’ve been around camels a lot in Dubai; they are massive. They can be friendly, but they can also be fierce. I approached Stucky slowly and started to gently dig away the sand around her. I kept patting her. I knew if she swung her head around quickly, she could injure herself, or me.

Christine filmed my rescue attempt and posted photos on social media. Angela gave Stucky water. I focused on digging out her back legs. When I tried to wipe the sweat from my eyes, I would get sand in them. An hour later, we still weren’t making much progress—whenever we nearly freed a leg, which took about 20 minutes, she would get sucked back into the sand. And the more she struggled to get free, the more stuck she became. We were worried it would get dark and the tide would come in.
Luckily, at that point, a pickup arrived carrying 7 guys with all sorts of apparatus (裝備). Someone saw posted photos of the camel rescue on social media. Word then quickly spread to the small farms a few kilometres away. They joined in and worked super-hard. Everyone was working on all four of the camel’s legs at the same time, using different techniques. When we finally got her out, Stucky’s legs were effectively dead. Then the guys massaged her legs to get the blood flowing. It took about 20 minutes for her to stand. Then she turned, stretched and gave us a wink goodbye.
