國旗日是紀(jì)念美國大陸會議1777年6月14日通過了美國第一面正式國旗。目前，每逢是日，到處可見美國國旗迎風(fēng)飄揚(yáng)，全國各地都要舉行紀(jì)念活動，以示對國旗的敬意。???美國第一次大規(guī)模的國旗紀(jì)念活動是1876年慶祝建國100周年時進(jìn)行的。19世紀(jì)90年代，不少公立學(xué)校倡議每年在6月14日舉行國旗紀(jì)念活動，很快得到了廣泛的響應(yīng)。1893年費(fèi)城首先承認(rèn)6月14日為國旗紀(jì)念日，1897年紐約州也承認(rèn)了這一節(jié)日，并要求這一天各大建筑物上必須懸掛國旗。進(jìn)入20世紀(jì)后，美國國旗協(xié)會再次發(fā)起紀(jì)念活動，國會為響應(yīng)他們的倡議，于1949年正式確認(rèn)6月14日為美國國旗日。

感恩節(jié)是北美洲國家的傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日(traditinal festival)，屆時放假三天，合家團(tuán)聚(All the family members get tgether)。感恩節(jié)的食品富有傳統(tǒng)特色。在節(jié)日宴會上，有一道必不可少的特色名菜(specialty)——“烤火雞”(turkey)?；痣u是感恩節(jié) 的傳統(tǒng)主菜，通常是把火雞肚子里塞上各種調(diào)料和拌好的食品，然后整只烤出，由男主人用刀切成薄片分給大家。此外，感恩節(jié)的傳統(tǒng)食品還有甜山芋(sweet ptat )、玉蜀黍(maize )、南 瓜餅(pumpkin cake)、紅莓苔子果醬(cranberry jam)等。
