Meatball sneezed in my arms.Realizing it was t cld utside,I went inside.Meatball seemed happy enugh t stay in the warm huse.But after an hur r tw,it went t the dr and wanted t g utside again.
“Why wn’t it just stay in with us all the time?” Nathan,my yungest daughter asked.
I explained t her that it was happy t be here but it liked being able t cme and g as it pleased.
“That must be nice,” Jane,wh happened t cme ut fr a cup f tea,cut in,“Why the cat,nt I,culd cme and g?Why nt give Meatball a curfew,t?”
I turned a deaf ear t her cmplaint.
Later in the night,temperatures drpped unusually lw.Meatball std at the dr,mewing t g utside,again.I shk my head at it,being afraid that it might freeze t death.It lked at me and kept mewing.
“I knw yu’re nt happy,but it’s fr yur wn gd,” I said,patting its head.
“Mm’s nt being mean t yu,” Jane tld the cat.“She’s just trying t keep yu frm turning int a frzen meatball,” said Jane,lking at me meaningfully.
We all laughed at the jke.
The next mrning,I culdn’t find Meatball.I asked the kids if anyne had seen her.
