W: Why didn’t the coach let him rest?
M: Because he told the coach that he could play.
W: Of course he’s going to say that! Those guys always pretend they’re not hurt, even when they are.
M: Well, he ended up playing pretty badly after the second quarter, and Seattle ended up winning the game by quite a few points.
W: I think that coach should get fired for leaving him in!
M: Yeah, that was what a lot of fans were saying.

A.Mexico. B.Japan. C.Britain.
19.What is considered rude in the Arab countries?
A.Eating with your left hand.
B.Lifting the bowl to your mouth.
C.Making a noise while having meals.
20.What advice does the speaker give about different manners?
A.Doing as you do at home.
B.Following the native people.
C.Visiting different countries.
【答案】18.B 19.A 20.B
Today I’m going to tell you something about manners in different countries. I think you already know that people in different countries have different ways of doing things. Something that is rude in one country may well be quite polite in another. For example, in Britain you mustn’t lift your bowl to your mouth and you’d better not make a noise when you are having some liquid food. But in Japan you needn’t worry about making a noise when you drink it. It shows that you are enjoying it. In Britain you try not to put your hands on the table at all during a meal. In Mexico, however, guests are expected to keep their hands on the table throughout a meal. But it is in the Arab countries that you really must be careful with your hands. You see in the Arab countries you mustn’t eat with your left hand. This is considered to be very impolite. So, what should you do if you visit another country? Well, you needn't worry. You can ask the native people there to help you or just watch carefully and try to do as they do, not as you do at home.

I started powerlifting when I was 65. I worked in real estate in Michigan for about 35 years, and when I retired I decided to lose a bit of weight. A friend’s husband, Art Little, who is a personal trainer, invited me to his gym. He introduced me to powerlifting and he is still my trainer now.
The first time I went, he gave me a broomstick to lift. The next day I told myself I wouldn’t return, but I heard a voice in my head telling me to go back. So, I ended up returning day after day. After a few weeks, my trainer encouraged me to go to a tournament to watch others compete. I was really amazed, but there was no one of my age. I asked my trainer if he thought I could do it, and he said, “Oh, sure.” The first time I competed was at a state meet. I was amazed that I won, because the others had been doing it far longer. I just came in after two months’ practice and defeated them all. After that, I knew powerlifting was for me.
My trainer had me going to the gym three times a week. I improved so quickly because I was consistent. If I was supposed to be there on Monday, I would be there, regardless of whether it was a holiday, or rainy or snowy day. I didn’t miss a day—and that’s how I’m up to the weight I’m lifting now, although the gains happened slowly. Each year, I was getting better.
I’m 79 now and I tell people of my age that they can do this, too; they just have to be consistent and start with something small.
24.Why did the author go back to the gym?
A.She felt ashamed of her behavior.
B.The trainer persuaded her to go back.
C.The broomstick was easy for her to lift.
D.The inner power from her heart made her to go on.
25.What was beyond the author’s expectations?
A.She could go to the gym and practice.
B.She had a win in the competition.
C.She gained confidence from the trainer.
D.She was the oldest one in the competition.
26.Which of the following words could describe the author?
A.Diligent and curious. B.Determined and smart.
C.Hard-working and humorous. D.Persistent and devoted.
27.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.No pains, no gains. B.Better late than never.
C.A little labor, much health. D.Do things consistently.
根據(jù)文章第二段第二句中的“The next day I told myself I wouldn’t return, but I heard a voice in my head telling me to go back(第二天,我告訴自己我不會回來,但我聽到一個聲音在我的腦海里告訴我回去。)”
根據(jù)第二段中的“ I was really amazed, but there was no one of my age. I asked my trainer if he thought I could do it, and he said, “Oh, sure.” The first time I competed was at a state meet. I was amazed that I won, because the others had been doing it far longer. I just came in after two months’ practice and defeated them all.
根據(jù)第三段中的“I improved so quickly because I was consistent. If I was supposed to be there on Monday, I would be there, regardless of whether it was a holiday, or rainy or snowy day. ETH Zurich researchers led by Professor Marco Hutter have developed a new control approach that enables a legged robot, called ANYmal, to move quickly and steadily over difficult terrain(地形).
Thanks to a new controller based on a neural network, the legged robot ANYmal, which was developed by ETH Zurich researchers and commercialized by the ETH spin-off ANYbotics, is now able to combine its visual perception of the environment with its sense of touch for the first time.
Before the robot could put its capabilities to the test in the real world, the scientists exposed the system to numerous obstacles and sources of error in a virtual training camp. This let the network learn the ideal way for the robot to overcome obstacles, as well as when it can rely on environmental data.
“With this training, the robot is able to master the most difficult natural terrain without having seen it before, ” says Hutter. This works even if the sensor data on the immediate environment is ambiguous or vague. ANYmal then plays it safe and relies on its proprioception(本體感覺). According to Hutter, this allows the robot to combine the best of both worlds: the speed and efficiency of external sensing and the safety of proprioceptive sensing.
Whether after an earthquake, after a nuclear disaster, or during a forest fire, robots like ANYmal can be used primarily wherever it is too dangerous for humans to take action and where other robots cannot cope with the difficult terrain.
To navigate difficult terrain, humans and animals quite automatically combine the visual perception of their environment with the proprioception of their legs and hands. This allows them to easily handle slippery or soft ground and move around with confidence, even when visibility is low. However, until now, the legged robots have been able to do this only to a limited extent. Hopefully, the technological progress in the near future will enable them to play a greater role.
28.What is the passage mainly about?
A.A new controller is based on a neural network
B.ETH Zurich researchers have developed a new robot.
C.A new controller enables a legged robot to handle tough terrain.
D.The legged robot is commercialized by the ETH spin-off ANYbotics.
29.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The robot. B.The sensor data.
C.The immediate environment. D.The most difficult natural terrain.
30.How does paragraph 5 emphasize the advantages of this robot?
A.By making comparisons. B.By introducing a concept.
C.By using a professor’s words. D.By referring to research.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.The legged robot can be widely used.
B.Humans and animals are better than robots.
C.The legged robot remains to be further improved.
D.Humans and animals can easily handle slippery or soft ground.
【答案】28.C 29.D 30.A 31.C
根據(jù)第一段“ETH Zurich researchers led by Professor Marco Hutter have developed a new control approach that enables a legged robot, called ANYmal, to move quickly and steadily over difficult terrain(地形).(由Marco Hutter教授領(lǐng)導的蘇黎世聯(lián)邦理工學院的研究人員開發(fā)了一種新的控制方法,使一個名為ANYmal的腿部機器人能夠在困難的地形上快速穩(wěn)定地移動。)”
根據(jù)畫線詞所在句 ““With this training, the robot is able to master the most difficult natural terrain without having seen it before, ” says Hutter.(“通過這種訓練,機器人能夠在以前從未見過的情況下掌握最困難的自然地形,”Hutter說。)”可知,代詞it指的就是前面出現(xiàn)的the most difficult natural terrain。故選D項。
根據(jù)第五段“Whether after an earthquake, after a nuclear disaster, or during a forest fire, robots like ANYmal can be used primarily wherever it is too dangerous for humans to take action and where other robots cannot cope with the difficult terrain.(無論是在地震、核災難還是森林火災之后,像ANYmal這樣的機器人都可以主要用于人類無法采取行動的危險地帶,以及其他機器人無法應對復雜地形的地方。)” 故選A項。
根據(jù)最后一段最后兩句“However, until now, the legged robots have been able to do this only to a limited extent. Hopefully, the technological progress in the near future will enable them to play a greater role.

D
Remember the time when summer holidays felt really long? But the older you got, the faster the days disappeared until months and years went by without you realizing it. So why does this happen?
Several explanations have been put forward to explain this phenomenon. The simplest of these is that it takes longer to encode new experiences than familiar experiences, and when you’re young, all experiences are relatively new, so time seems to go slower.
For example, if you are a five-year-old kid, then the past two years of your life represent 40% of all the life you’ve lived and can recall. But when you are a 50-year-old adult, then the past two years represent only 4% of all your recallable life. So, for a kid, two years might seem to last forever, but for an adult, those two years might not even seem long at all.
Another theory proposed by Professor Adrian Bejan is that it is related to the number of mental images the brain encounters and organizes and the state of our brains as we age. When we get older, the rate at which changes in mental images are perceived decreases because of several transforming physical features, including vision and brain complexity. Days seemed to last longer in your youth because the young mind receives more images during one day than the same mind in old age.
Just as a higher number of frames per second can give you a slow-motion video on a camera, life seems to go slowly when you’re young, and just as a lower number of frames per second can give you a fast-motion video, life seems to hurry by when you’re older.
It isn’t just age that changes our perception(感知)of time. Every single one of us has felt the seconds drag by when we’re bored and things seem to move in slow motion when we’re in life-threatening situations. But if we’re having fun, time flies by before we know it.
32.What is the function of the first sentence in paragraph 1?
A.To introduce the main topic. B.To ask readers’ opinions.
C.To summarize the whole passage. D.To describe long summer holidays.
33.What does Adrian Bejan think perceiving time has to do with?
A.Our emotion’s changes.
B.Our brain’s processing speed.
C.The improvement of our life quality.
D.The enrichment of our life experiences.
34.How does the author argue for his opinion?
A.By asking questions. B.By listing numbers.
C.By making comparisons. D.By providing examples.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A.How We Perceive Time With Age
B.Time Seems to Slow Down With Age
C.Why Time Goes Faster as We Grow Older
D.Our Mood Determines Our Perception of Time
【答案】32.A 33.B 34.D 35.C
第一段的第一句“Remember the time when summer holidays felt really long?(還記得感覺暑假特別漫長的時候嗎?)”,接著提出問題“So why does this happen?(為什么隨著年齡的增長時間流逝得更快?)”,所以第一句起到引出話題的作用。故選A項。
根據(jù)第四段的“Days seemed to last longer in your youth because the young mind receives more images during one day than the same mind in old age.
通讀全文,尤其是根據(jù)本文第一段中的“But the older you got, the faster the days disappeared until months and years went by without you realizing it. So why does this happen?( 但是隨著年齡的增長,日子消失得越快,直到一年又一年過去,你自己都沒有意識到。

“Always wear sunscreen.” “Eat a balanced diet.” “A penny saved is a penny earned.” You probably all learned these lessons as a kid. But chances are, despite knowing these, you still stepped outside without putting on sunscreen, gulped (大口吞咽) an entire bag of chips in one go or spent more money than you had expected. ____36____
It’s a mistaken idea that knowing is half the battle. ____37____ Information doesn’t always change behavior.
Behavioral scientists have seen people struggle to save money, to cut back on their expenses, even after they’ve taken a financial class. People know what they need to do to improve their financial situation—to save more and spend less. ____38____ But it’s just easier said than done. America spends nearly 700 million dollars every year on financial education programs, yet researchers have found that these programs explained only 0.1% of the change in financial behavior.
____39____ If you are struggling, it’s not because there’s something wrong with you. It’s most likely because there is something wrong with how your environment is set up. Look around you. The signals to spend money have got smarter and faster. ____40____ You can reshape your environment and how you interact with it.
A.So why is that?
B.How to deal with that?

“Eat a balanced diet.” “A penny saved is a penny earned.” You probably all learned these lessons as a kid. But chances are, despite knowing these, you still stepped outside without putting on sunscreen, gulped (大口吞咽) an entire bag of chips in one go or spent more money than you had expected. 提到了生活中的案例:很多時候人們知道該怎么做一件事,但是沒有付諸實踐;下文“It’s a mistaken idea that knowing is half the battle. 故選A。
37.根據(jù)上文“It’s a mistaken idea that knowing is half the battle.
38.根據(jù)上文“Behavioral scientists have seen people struggle to save money, to cut back on their expenses, even after they’ve taken a financial class. People know what they need to do to improve their financial situation—to save more and spend less.
39.根據(jù)下文“If you are struggling, it’s not because there’s something wrong with you. It’s most likely because there is something wrong with how your environment is set up. Look around you. The signals to spend money have got smarter and faster.
40.根據(jù)上文“If you are struggling, it’s not because there’s something wrong with you. It’s most likely because there is something wrong with how your environment is set up. Look around you. The signals to spend money have got smarter and faster.

56.illegally 57.has used/has been using 58.to stop 59.defend 60.a(chǎn)re 61.which 62.the 63.for 64.themselves 65.connected
主語the Chinese government為單數(shù)概念,謂語應用第三人稱單數(shù)形式,故填has used或has been using。
in an effort to do sth. 故填to stop。
主句是到裝句,主語是about 400 mixed-breed guard dogs,所以be動詞應用復數(shù)形式。 故填are。
故填the。
故填for。

Sandra Park was an old lady who lived alone. One day, she left the supermarket, finding a couple of homeless young people lining the streets. Three of them saw Sandra struggling with her plastic bags, so they decided to help her. “Would you like us to carry your grocery bags?” one of them said.
“Oh, you are so nice. Please, I’d appreciate that a lot,” she said, handing over the bags to the three men.
Walking her to her house, the three introduced themselves as Allan, James, and Samuel. When they got to her house, she asked if they wanted to come in for a meal. As the three men were hungry, they happily accepted the generous offer.
Sandra’s house was in bad condition, as she never learned how to call for help to repair the broken things in her house. When the three men saw what was happening, they offered to help her again.
After their lunch, the boys got busy helping her fix several things such as the roof, the fence, and bathroom tiles.
“I hope you don’t mind me asking, Sandra, but why are you all alone here?” Samuel asked her one day while they were fixing the pipes of her kitchen sink.
“Well, I lived most of my life in this town. I taught economics and marketing in the local high school for years. So I decided to purchase this house and I’ve lived here ever since,” she explained.
They asked her if she was willing to teach them economics and marketing.
“I would love to teach you! Sandra excitedly replied. In the evenings, she started to teach the three men. This routine brought them closer to one another, and Sandra started seeing them as her children.
One day, however, they told Sandra that it would be the last lesson they’d be taking with her. “You’ve been extremely kind to us, and we really value your presence, but we think it’s time for us to try to do something with our lives,” Allan explained.
She understood what they meant, so she prepared a big meal for them that night.

【答案】?????Years passed, and Sandra thought of the three men occasionally. One day, she had just come back from the store carrying a bunch of bags when she heard someone from a parked car in her driveway suddenly shouted: “If we had known you were coming from the store, we would have carried your bags just like last time!”. Looking toward the car, Sandra saw Allan, Samuel, and James getting out, each of whom was wearing decent suits. Sandra dropped her bags and gave each of them a hug.
“I’m so happy to see you again. Please come in,” she said, opening the door for them. The three men said that they left town to start a repair business, which later became a construction company! So proud of them was Sandra that she couldn’t help but shed a few tears. “It’s all thanks to you, Sandra,” Samuel told her as she wiped her eyes. “Thank you, Sandra. Thank you for teaching us, for feeding us, and for believing in us. Because of you, we live more comfortable lives,” Allan smiled. Sandra was surprised but extremely happy. She never thought that an unexpected encounter led her to this and that she was able to change the men’s lives for the better. Sandra was surprised but extremely happy. She never thought that an unexpected encounter led her to this and that she was able to change the men’s lives for the better.
